Sebastien Loeb flat out on the Nurburgring

Sebastien Loeb has conquered the world’s rally stages, now he’s attempting to do the same to the world’s racetracks.

The nine-time World Rally Champion is in his second season in the World Touring Car Championship, a series which, let’s face it, isn’t exactly high on everyone’s ‘must watch motorsport’ list.

In an attempt to sex up the series, the WTCC will be staging a race this year at the Nurburgring Nordschleife – yep, the full 22km track nestled in the Eiffel mountains.

The footage here is from onboard with Loeb during the recent test session.

The WTCC cars may be front-wheel drive with only around 250kW or so, but it doesn’t stop them carrying plenty of speed, and there’s always the pleasure of watching one of the greatest drivers ever to have lived work his magic.

Oh, if you’re in a hurry, skip to around 1:50, which is where Loeb leaves the Grand Prix track and joins the Nordschleife proper.
